But what about the name: photohooks.com? Well, in my research I learned that you need a name that is catchy, easy to remember, and describes the site precisely. Many suggested personalizing it, or giving your site a name that is associated with you, personally. photohooks.com wasn't my first choice. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even on my radar at first.
So, where did the name photohooks.com originate? It was born out of frustration. That's it. I sat in front of my computer for over an hour the day I started this website, trying to come up with a name that met all of the criteria listed above. I typed every name I could think of into the domain registry engine: johnsphotography, hooksphotography, artbyjohn, photoart, etc., but not one of them was original - all were taken. After racking my brain for over an hour and reaching a state of frustration, I typed in photohooks as the name domain and it was accepted. I hit the register this domain button before anyone else could grab it. Hence, photohooks.com was born.
Even though the name may not have been my first choice, I have come to appreciate it as over the years. The frustration has been replaced with, "I'm glad it happened." Why? Because my family and friends from the beginning has thought it was a perfect name - it suited me, they said. In promoting my website, I have found that the name is catchy, easy to remember, and describes the site perfectly; my name is hooks and my forte is photography - thus my website has my name and my passion branded into it.
